Usually, the next target for those who have done the Mt. Victoria hike and are still looking for a similar challenge, Thumbpeak offers fewer but wider river crossings and more demanding ascents laden with fallen tree trunks as hurdles.
Day 1
Begin the chill and fun hike below the canopy of trees growing inside the lands of Iwahig Penal Colony. Pass through at least 15 cool and clear streams and rivers by carefully hopping between rocks and stones.
At the end of the river crossing, slowly ascend through the ragged and patchy trail. Four hours of walking will bring you to a clearing at the shoulder of Mt Thumbpeak where you will spend the night with friends and fireflies.
Wake up to the sound of the stream and enjoy a quick sip of morning coffee before pushing up to the peak. Pass through the thicker forest, and large rocks, and finally enjoy one of the magnificent views you’ll ever witness in Puerto Princesa City.
Begin the descent back to the camp, pack your things, and gear up for a long hike back down to the foot of the mountain range.
